Test #J - Law 34 - Post your Thesis

1. Read on how to generate a thesis statement - http://www.indiana.edu/~wts/pamphlets/thesis_statement.shtml

2. Also read this on forming a thesis statement - http://leo.stcloudstate.edu/acadwrite/thesistatement.html

A thesis statement tells a reader how you will interpret the significance of the subject matter under discussion. Such a statement is also called an "argument," a "main idea," or a "controlling idea." Note that a thesis is an interpretation of a subject, not the subject itself. Remember to give "your interpretation", do not just state as y our thesis- "research on probate law".

What is an argument? Read this - http://www.unc.edu/depts/wcweb/handouts/argument.html

In academic writing, an argument is usually a main idea, often called a "claim" or "thesis statement," backed up with evidence that supports the idea. Ninety-nine percent of the time you will need to make some sort of claim and use evidence to support it, and your ability to do this well will separate your papers from those of students who see assignments as mere accumulations of fact and detail. In other words, gone are the happy days of being given a "topic" about which you can write anything. It is time to stake out a position and prove why it is a good position for a thinking person to hold.

NOW POST YOUR THESIS STATEMENT OF YOUR LEGAL RESEARCH RESEARCH PAPER UNDER TEST #J IN LAW 34 - Please note that a thesis is NOT a summary of your research paper. It is YOUR POSITION (in favor or against a legal issue or proposition - eg. if you were arguing a point, it is your argument about that point)
